Based on the theme of stories rooted in the continuity of carving, dividing, and stacking wood, she creates people and fictional creatures. Viewing carving as an act of mourning and rebirth, she creates monumental forms imbued with animism that represent human figures from the primitive world to the present day. By researching the culture of wood carving and folk crafts in Hokkaido, she is pursuing new forms of expression in the medium.
