Focusing on the unique nature of embroidery as a medium that gives rise to two different images, a front and a back, I have consistently explored the themes of the materiality of embroidery and the substantiality of moving images while creating embroidery-based animated works.
Based on the notion that embroidery stitches are an accumulation of actions, and animation techniques are an accumulation of time, I hope to create an exhibition imbued with a multi-layered impact by displaying animated images alongside the embroidery that was used to make the original frames.
Embroidered images are linear expressions – this is what makes animation interesting and increases the freedom of movement.
