Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba was born in 1968, Tokyo to a Japanese mother and a Vietnamese father.
After spending his childhood in Japan, he received his education in the United States.
He currently lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Houston (USA).
Since 2001, he has presented the Memorial Project series, which addresses themes such as
refugees and social minorities. In particular, he gained international attention with
Memorial Project Nha Trang, Vietnam: Towards the Complex- For the Courageous, the Curious,
and the Cowards, which depicts the struggles of cyclo drivers pedaling beneath the beautiful sea.
He has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including biennales and triennales
in Venice, Yokohama, Istanbul, and Sydney.
His works are included in the collections of major institutions such as the Guggenheim Museum
(New York), the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Centre Pompidou, and the Mori Art Museum.
