KOMAKI Kazufusa

Born 1967 in Hyogo, live in Hyogo
Graduated from the Department of Commerce, Faculty of Business Administration, Kobe University

Kazufusa Komaki was born in 1967 in Takarazuka City as the son of a kimono shop owner. After graduating from Kobe University's Faculty of Business Administration, he began creating paintings featuring motifs of Chinese trumpet vine and morning glory flowers in the 1990s. Since participating in the “House of Cocoons — Sericulture Project” at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale in 2006, he has presented site-specific works themed around the “memory” of a place at regional art festivals throughout Japan, such as the Port City KOBE Art Festival. In recent years, inspired by carving figures from mulberry wood, closely linked to sericulture, he has been creating balance sculptures titled “skywalker,” which stand poised on a thread. He also produces word-based works inspired by poetry.
