SAGAWA Takahiro

Born 1983 in OSAKA, live in OSAKA
2005 Osaka University of Arts Junior College Advanced Course

He creates three-dimensional works inspired by the dynamic text effects found in manga, as well as interactive artworks, and has developed a body of work centered on the theme of “power spots”—places believed to possess spiritual or restorative energy. Through performances resembling acts of pilgrimage or prayer conducted at locations such as Mount Fuji, New York City, and Yakushima, he has explored the symbolic meanings embedded in places and actions, as well as the emotional power that people attribute to them. Using pop visual language as a medium, he creates situations in which visitors can experience feelings of hope, expectation, and prayer that arise when people place their faith in something. Through humor and critical inquiry, the work reexamines and reimagines the nature of belief, spirituality, and value systems in contemporary society.
