She creates ceramic sculptures characterized by vibrant colors and organic forms, exhibiting widely both in Japan and internationally.
Major series include “A Garden of Feelings,” which presents emotional landscapes as gardens; “A Lump of Feelings,” in which stones and clay are fired together, drawing inspiration from memories of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake; and the “Animals,” “Fruits,” and “Homes” series developed through artist-in-residence programs.
From 2006 to 2018, she participated in the art NPO C.A.P., helping to establish its clay studio. In 2016, she founded Mayu Studio, a ceramic studio at the foot of Mt. Rokko in Kobe, where techniques such as pit firing and raku firing are practiced.
A deep reverence for nature, nurtured by the environment of Mt. Rokko, lies at the core of her creative practice. That sensibility finds expression through the medium of clay and takes form in her ceramic works.
