This botanical garden, where visitors can view Mt. Rokko’s native flora and Alpine-Himalayan flowers, was visited many times by a botanist, Tomitaro Makino, during its early days.
The cool climate, located 865 meters above sea level, fosters the cultivation of some 1,500 species, including alpine plants, cold-weather plants, and wildflowers from around the world in nearly wild conditions. The garden is adorned with seasonal scenes such as flowers breaking through the snow in early spring, new greenery at the start of summer, and changing leaves in fall.
