Fumiaki AONO

Born in Miyagi 1968, live in Miyagi
1992: Completed Miyagi University of Education Master's degree in Art Education

He has been thinking about the culture of the region he lives in (Tohoku/Japan). Since 1991, he has been active with the theme of “healing - regeneration and circulation.” By delving into the fundamental and universal concept of “restoration,” he explores creativity that differs from so-called “creative” attitudes. Around 1996, he began trying to “repair” and “replenish” the debris he found in various places. Since around 2004, he has also been working on extracting complex structures obtained from the real world and developing new methods (such as “repair/replacement” which reuses ready-made products such as furniture). After personally suffering severe damage from the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, he is working on “comprehensive reconstruction,” which takes into account a multilayered context (earthquake, history, location, memory, stories, etc.).
