The Conference on Art and Art Projects
The Conference on Art and Art Projects
Formed in Kobe in 1994
Established in 1994 with 11 artists, including founder Tomoko Sugiyama. In 1995, earthquake relief funds from French artists served as a catalyst for citizen participation programs. Since then, they have implemented countless art events using the former foreign settlement area of Kobe. In 1999, they implemented “CAP HOUSE - 190 Days of Artistic Experimentation” using the former Kobe Emigration Center. They became an NPO in 2002 and continued the CAP HOUSE project until 2007. The building became the Kobe Center for Overseas Migration and Cultural Interaction in 2009, and C.A.P. continues its efforts as the Center’s designated manager, hosting exchanges with international art groups with funding through citizen donations. Through See Saw Seeds, which started in 2016, more than 60 artists have traveled back and forth between C.A.P. and art groups in Germany, UAE, Finland, and more.
