HORI Sonomi

1985 Born in Shizuoka , Live in Shizuoka
2009 M.F.A, Sculpture, Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts

She studied sculpture in Okinawa and went to Paris, France, through the Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists by the Agency for Cultural Affairs (1-year fine arts program). He stayed at Cité internationale des arts in Paris and is currently based in Shizuoka.
Facing a sculpture is a question of existence. She explores in particular how the world can be measured using the body as a yardstick, considering the area within reach as the domain one can grasp. She creates pieces such as “Consonance” (2018-2022) and “Phantom” (2024), which reconstruct landscapes using unfired clay, as well as abstract sculptures in plaster themed on breath and more. She places the properties of materials at the center of her pieces and contemplates the impermanence of matter and the transient nature of all things.
