Tadashi KAWAMATA
Born 1953 in Hokkaido, work and live in Paris, FRANCE
Completed a doctoral program at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1984.
He was selected as a participating artist for the 40th Venice Biennale (1982) and subsequently won high acclaim at international exhibitions such as documenta 8 (1987), documenta 9 (1992), and the 3rd Skulptur Projekte Münster (1997), and took part in the establishment of the Department of Intermedia Art at the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1998 as a senior professor. In 2005, he served as general director of the Yokohama Triennale while still an artist, organizing a large-scale international exhibition.
Since 2006, he has lived in Paris, France, where he works as a professor at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts while actively pursuing his career as an artist based in Europe. His work covers architecture and urban planning, history and sociology, everyday communication, and even medicine. Currently based in Paris, France, he is active in Europe and Asia.
