Naoki KOIDE

Born in 1968 in Aichi. He graduated from Tokyo Zokei University’s Department of Fine Arts in 1992 and is currently based in Chiba.

In the early stages of his career, he exhibited sculptures made of FRP, wood, and other materials, as well as photographs, on the theme of turning points in his life. This includes the passing of his mother, him and his girlfriend, his wedding, his new house, and the birth of his child, which can be considered his personal history. He began working with ceramics during his residency at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in 2010. He says, “The time during the firing (of ceramics) best matches the timing of my feelings,” and it has become a method that he uses to this day. In recent years, he has expressed his mind honestly, without worrying about the presence or gaze of others. Beyond the biases of thought and born from physical burden, Koide’s grand and joyful world of unlikely works is full of a mysterious charm that makes you chuckle.
