MURAKAMI Fumiaki

Born 1978 in Kobe, live in Tsukuba
Bachelor of Art, Nagoya Zokei University(2002)
Master of Art, University of Tsukuba(2005)

He lived in Higashinada Ward until junior high school. Though this was a densely populated residential area, he grew up in contact with the natural world, such as the Rokko mountain range and the Seto Inland Sea. His grandfather was a carpenter, so as a boy, he was skilled at making things. When he was in elementary school, his parents bought him a computer, which was rare at the time, sparking his interest in engineering technology, such as programming and electronics. When he entered art university, he encountered media art that combines technology and art and began creating art. He is influenced by contemporary art, such as environmental art and installation art that emerged in Germany and the United States in the 20th century. His work features video installations, in which three-dimensional sculptures are combined with electronic media such as video and installed in a specific location. In recent years, he has been creating and researching viewing structures of art integrated with its environment from an ecological perspective.
